TREKKING ROUTE NO. 5
PADAM (3650M)-LAMAYURU.........
(Round Trip - 10 Days)
It is a most arduous trekking route because of number of ups and downs. Can be covered in 10 days.
1st Day : Padam-KARSHA...........3 TO 4 HOURS
Proceed towards Pipiting then after passing through dusty plains cross Doda river by a bridge.
Reach Karsha. 15th Century Gelumpa Monastery (popularly known as Karsha Gompa) dominates the scene.
2nd Day : Karsha- Pishu.........5 to 6 hours |

An easy but hot and dusty walk. Above and after crossing Rinam, there is a rock shelter and a small stream (Zanskar river). The longest hanging bridge (55 metres),(joining Zangla Gompa) can be visited before arriving at Pishu. From Zangla, a trail goes to Padam.

3rd Day : Pishu-Hanumil......5 hours
Continue along the left bank of Zanskar river. Reach Pidmu. It is approximately 2 hours walk to Hanumil from Pidmu.
4th Day : Hanumil-Purfi-la(3900M)-Snertse......6hours
After steep and difficult climb, reach Purfila (3900M, 4 hours). Steep descent to Oma-Chu river.
After crossing a bridge and then around 3/4 km of sandy slope, Snertse, a wonderful campsite is reached (there is a tent-restaurant).
5th Day : Snertse-Hanumala (4700M)-Lingshad......7 hours

Reach Hanumala (4700M). Now after a kilometre of steep descent, climb for half a kilometre, and then descent towards Lingshad(3800M). Camp near the monastery.
6th Day : Lingshad-foot of Singe-la(5060M).......6 hours, 22 km
After an hour's easy climb upto Margum-la (4100M), descent along the slope (beautiful landscape) on the other bank of Zanskar river.
View of Nierang valley is awe-inspiring. After passing the villages of Gongma(3840M)and Skiumpata, finally stop at Singe-la(5060M) for overnight camp.
7th Day : Foot of Singe-la-Singe-la-Photoksar (3750M)......7 hours, 16 km
It takes about 2 hours to reach the top of the pass. The climb upto Boumitse-la (4200 m) is not arduous. Now descend to Photoksar (3750M), a village at the base of huge mountain walks.

8th Day : Photoksar-Sirsir-la(4000M)-Hanupatta.....6 hours
From Photoksar, its a long ascent to Sirsir-la. Reach campsite, little before Hanupatta.
9th Day : Hanupatta-Wanla/Shilla.....5 hours/7hours
Wanla is located on a flat land, may be reached after crossing bridge on the left bank of the river. Either camp here for the night or proceed further up. Reach Shilla for the night camp.
10th Day : Wanla/Shilla-Lamayuru......4 1/2 hours
After passing the village of Shilla, go to a broad chorten then follow a narrow and dry gorge, reach Prinkiti-la(3725M). Now after an easy descent, Lamayuru village is reached.
