TREKKING ROUTE NO. 10
LAMAYURU-STOK
(Round Trip - 6 Days)
This route was not used earlier because of absence of bridges. Now, it can be safely used.
1st Day: Lamayuru - Prinkiti-la (3720M) - Hinju....7 hours
From Lamayuru monastery descent towards the village, cross a stream, climb across mountain-side onto a small valley, reach Prinkiti-la(3720M).
Descend a gorge, arrive at Shilla, cross a bridge, continue to the right bank upto Wanla (2 1/2 hours). |

Now follow Yapola river on the left for 2 hours upto Panji-la after crossing the bridge. Go up the valley, leading off at right angles (north-east), after one hour's trekking leave the valley on the left (Route No. 9, Lamayuru-Alchi via Tar-la), then to Hinju-one hour.

2nd Day : Hinju- Konzke-la(4950M)-Sumda.....5 to 6 hours
After crossing Hinju, leave one more valley on the left and ascent to the pass.
From the summit of Konzke-la(4950M), long descent to pastures, follow the trial on the left bank along the mountainside. Reach Sumda, for overnight stay in camp.
3rd Day : Sumda-Dundunchen-la (4800M)-Chilling.....6 to 7 hours
From Sumda, cross the bridge and ascend Dundunchen-la (4800M).
Reach Chilling, a village of craftsmen busy working on copper, tin, silver, tchang pots, tea pots etc. |
4th Day : Chilling-Shingo..... 5 to 6 hours
From Chilling follow Zanskar river upstream. Skaya is 2 hours from the river crossing. After some distance from Skaya, the trail joins with the Route No. 12 (Stok-Hemis via Markha valley).
From here Shingo with 2-3 houses is 3 hours away. Overnight camp.
5th Day : Shingo- Ganda-la (4700M)-Rumbak.......4 hours
Ascend Ganda-la, easy descent into a beautiful valley. Reach valley of Rumbak Gompa.
From Rumbak gompa, there is a route joining Spituk via Zinchen.
6th Day : Rumbak Gompa-Stok-la-Stok (Leh).....5 to 6 hours
After passing this beautiful valley, ascend Stok-la.

Now steep descent to summer pastures of Stok and then easy walk upto Stok, follow the river which comes from Stok-Kangri massif. From Stok, drive to Leh. |
