TREKKING ROUTE NO. 8
RINGDOM-KHALSE (via) KANJI-LA (Round Trip - 6 Days)
It is a most beautiful route but not much frequented by trekkers.
Best Season : June to October end.
1st Day: Ringdom (village) - Junction of Kanji-la (5150M) and Puzdon-la (5000M).. 7 to 8 hours
After going several kilometres along the trail towards Ringom Gompa, go up stream the river Kong on right bank for about half an hour then cross it.
Reach a narrow gorge, camp for the night at 4150 metres. |

2nd Day: Campsite-Kanji-la (5150M)-River Kong N..7 to 8 hours
Above camp, take a path to the left of the gorge, pack animals must follow the gorge. After crossing Kanji-la (5150M), which is difficult go west and descent. Camp near the river Kong N at 4300 metres.

3rd Day: River Kong N (4300M)- Kanji (3850M)...4 hours
Kanji can be reached after crossing the river several times and along the right bank, then to the left bank and finally to the Kanji Village (3850M).
Possible to reach Hemiskut on Kargil-Leh road in one day.
4th Day: Kanji(3850M)-Yogma-la (4700M)-River Shillakong(4100M)...6 to 7 hours
From Kanji, reach Yogma-la(4700M). By now you have trekked for 5 hours.
For one hour descend through a steep path from the summit to the river Shillakong(4100M) for night camp. Lamayuru is only one day away via Shilla. |
5th Daz: Campsite, River Shillakong (4100M)-Snlugutse-la(5000M)-Hanupatta(3450M)....8 to 9 hours
Ascent for 4 hours upto Sniugutse-la(5000M) of which 200 metres are steep.
Now go down for half an hour in a gorge and then follow a stream for 1 1/2 hour and reach at the meeting junction of Trek No. 5(Padam-Lamayuru). Another 2 hours trek to Hanupatta (3450M).
6th Day: Hanupatta-Khalse.......8 hours
Follow a good path, cross a gorge, an escarpment, descent towards a bridge, follow right bank of the Yapola river onto Penjila.
Passing through gorges in 3 hours arrive on Srinagar-Leh Highway, take a bus or lorry, reach Khalse. |
